Goodbye forever?? Farewell to paper driving licences…
I must say, I felt somewhat emotional as I glanced down at the tea-stained, cat-chewed and unevenly folded paper part of my driving licence after reading that from the 8th June it won’t be required.
The DVLA will no longer be issuing the paper part to the driving licence that has always accompanied your photo card. From the 8th June 2015 you are advised to destroy your old paper licence, however if you still have the original, pre-1998 paper licence without the photo card this will still be valid.
You can check your licence for any endorsements online – go to the DVLA website for this and other information (https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes)
I don’t think many people will miss them, although I will be keeping mine – I think it could become a collector’s item!
